Are US oil imports from foreign countries/corporations or does imports include US oil companies abroad?

I see that we (U.S.) import about 9 million barrels per day of crude oil. Does this figure mean that U.S. companies are importing from foreign companies and foreign governments or does this figure include U.S. oil companies drilling abroad and importing their oil to be refined here?
