He is probably thinking you don't like him. After you rolled your eyes he thought that you were just joking around but in a bad way, as in your saying you don't care for him. Being a shy guy, they tend to be a little wierd. They can think your in love with him (or vice versa) one day, and then completely toy with you another day. My advice would be to let him be.
